News...but not what you know

Sorry, this video is no longer available.

Some of the country's most breathtaking buildings are being celebrated at Grand Designs: House of the Year-one of them amazed hosts Kevin McCloud and Damion Burrows.

An amazing bathroom inspired by the renovation of the 14th century fortress is one of the most incredible things we have seen on the show.

The pair are exploring some of the most spectacular residences across the country, which are competing for the 2021 Royal Institute of British Architects' Housing of the Year Award.

In an exclusive clip of Channel 4's Wednesday show, the couple was lyrical about the Bailey Tower (the revival of a Grade II protected fortress in Cumbria), with a focus on luxurious bathrooms.

The property was built and designed by Katie Woolacott and Patrick Gilmartin, reimagining the structure, combining smooth glass and modern materials with a strong, ancient stone exterior.

The award-winning architect Damien met with the owner and began to learn about the stunning architecture in the clip.

"You are just showing off right now, are you really," Damion said, stepping over the glass partition and admiring the view.

"RIBA judges praised Katie and Patrick for the sensitive modernization of the tower while maintaining its character and history," Kevin added. "Their trick is to maintain a respectful distance between the new room and the old wall."

Patrick said in the show: "For me, something about the tower, it brings out your inner child, and you want to climb it up. You want to explore it, you want to discover things and be surprised by it.

At the same time, Katie added: "All these quirks and personalities are very important to us."

Damion was particularly impressed by the decision to create a space between the old stone wall and the new structure.

Katie said: "We really want you to feel like you are in the ruins. If you get to the edge, you won't feel that way.

Every week, the series will reveal which houses the RIBA judges will shortlist for the award and announce the winners of this prestigious award in the final program.

Also receiving the award this year are a 1960s sci-fi-style water tower in rural Norfolk, a 21st century Victorian London street, a stylish beach house next to a busy South Coast shipyard, and an angled space age Extend a typical Georgian farmhouse.

Grand Designs: The House of the Year will start on Channel 4 on Wednesday, November 17th at 9pm
